Most psilocybin retreats in Costa Rica run between USD $2,500 and $5,000 for five to seven nights, with private one-to-one programs sitting at the upper end and larger group centres below it. Flights are almost never included. The number that actually predicts your experience is not the price but the group size, and the two do not move together as reliably as you would hope.
What the range looks like in practice
Three bands cover almost everything on offer in the country.
Below about $2,000 for a week you are usually looking at a large group, a facilitator you will not meet before the ceremony, and preparation handled by an email with a PDF attached. Some of these are run by careful people. Many are not, and the screening is where the corners get cut first.
Between $2,500 and $4,000 is where most serious programs sit. Five to seven nights, a group small enough that someone knows your name, real preparation calls, and integration included rather than sold to you afterwards.
Above $5,000 you are paying for either genuine one-to-one time or a resort. Those are different products at similar prices, so it is worth asking which one you are buying.
What is usually included, and what is not
Almost every retreat in Costa Rica quotes a price that covers the stay, the food, the ceremonies and the facilitation. What separates them is everything around that.
Read the quote for these specifically:
- Flights. Never included. Budget separately for Liberia or San José.
- Airport transfer. Sometimes included, sometimes a few hundred dollars.
- Preparation. Should be included. If it is an optional add-on, ask why.
- Integration afterwards. The part most likely to be quietly missing.
- Single occupancy. Usually a supplement over the shared rate.
- Travel insurance, which nobody includes and everybody should carry.
Four things that move the price
Group size is the big one. A facilitator sitting with two people cannot charge what a facilitator sitting with twenty charges, and should not.
Length matters less than people expect. A well-run four-night program with two preparation calls beforehand often does more than seven nights of loose schedule.
Location moves it a surprising amount. Guanacaste, an hour from Liberia airport and close to private hospitals, costs more than the remote south, and the reason is not luxury. It is how fast you can reach a hospital if something goes wrong.
Whether the price includes the work before and after. A retreat that sells you the week and then sells integration separately has quoted you half a program.

Price signals worth taking seriously
A cheap retreat is not automatically a bad one, and an expensive one is not automatically safe. But a few things correlate with trouble often enough to be worth naming.
- A deposit taken before anyone has asked about your medical history or medication.
- No published price at all, only a call with someone whose job is closing.
- A discount that expires this week. Nobody running careful clinical screening needs urgency to fill a room.
- Several different medicines offered in one week. Each has its own contraindications and its own screening; a package that cycles through four is not screening properly for any of them.
Is a psilocybin retreat in Costa Rica cheaper than in Jamaica or the Netherlands?
Costa Rica and Jamaica land in a similar band, roughly $2,500 to $5,500 for five to seven nights depending on the operator. Dutch truffle retreats are usually shorter and cheaper because the format is a weekend rather than a week. Comparing the headline number across countries tells you very little; comparing what is included tells you a lot.
Because one facilitator is with one person for the whole program instead of dividing a week between eight or twenty. The cost is the practitioner’s time, not the room. That is also why a private program can be shorter and still do more: none of the schedule is spent managing a group.
Many do, usually as a deposit to hold your place and the balance due some weeks before arrival. Oneness works that way too. What matters more than the plan is what happens if you are declined at screening or cannot travel, so read the cancellation terms before you pay anything.
